You feel that you don’t have any other option but go to the bathroom for urination because you are helpless before the intense urge to urinate. It may sound funny but you can feel the urge from running the water anywhere.

    In that case, if there is no washroom around you or you are travelling in a bus then there will be discomfort and embarrassment. In addition, there can even be anxiety due to this urge and it is really difficult to control this urge, especially for a long time.

Due to the overactive bladder, you may leak when you are sleeping at night. You may need to urge to urinate even after consuming a little bit of water.     Eliminating several things from your habits such as caffeine and nicotine can be a great idea to reduce the severity of the overactive bladder. These things are important to leave because they can irritate the bladder which can increase the urge to urinate.

    However, eliminating these things can be a tough decision because the consumption of nicotine and caffeine is directly linked with the brain. In addition, these are some tips for controlling an overactive bladder:

    1- Drink Water in a Wise Way

    Drinking water and other liquids are an effective and way to control this urge. If you cut your consumption of liquids then there can be a reduction in the severity of OBC. However, in this regard, you need to take into your attention that you will not experience dehydration when you reduce the consumption of water.

    In addition, if you are around the washroom then you can drink all liquids as well as water at the same time. The pressure will come immediately and you can go to the washroom, after that, you can rest for quite some time and leave that time to avoid drinking any liquids.

    Here are some tricky tips for you to drink the essential liquids to control these problems:

    • Try to drink water when you are thirsty otherwise there will be no reduction in the severity of OBC
    • If you are drinking enough water and your urine is not yellow or is colorless then you don’t need to consume water in higher amounts
    • You can drink water by sipping after sipping than drinking a whole glass of water, it will help to reduce the pressure on the bladder in an effective way
    • Do not always carry a bottle along with you because it will urge you to drink more water which may lead to an overactive bladder

    2- Avoid Artificial Sweeteners

    There are a lot of artificial sweeteners that can significantly irritate your bladder in a huge bad way. This will irritation will not be easy to health control. In addition, artificial sweeteners may also work as diuretics which can worsen the symptoms of an overactive bladder. Artificial sweeteners, just like caffeine, work as diuretics in many people.

    To reduce the severity of an overactive bladder or reduce the urge to go to the washroom, you need to minimize the use of some substances and things that are packed with artificial sweeteners.

    The question is natural sugar is also bad for you because it is high in bad calories, and you also do not consume artificial sweeteners then what is the substitute for you? The answer is stevia-sweetened products. According to an authentic source, stevia-sweetened products will not irritate your bladder at all.

    3- Retrain Your Bladder

    If you are experiencing an overactive bladder then your doctor may recommend retraining your bladder. This retraining will effectively reduce the number of urges of going to the washroom. Sometimes, it is also paired with Kegel exercises as well as other effective treatments. These things will help you to strengthen your bladder for reducing the urge to urinate.
