Sometimes, classroom study is not enough for your child to grasp everything. Tutoring can go a long way in bringing out the best in your child and help them develop a clear understanding of topics. There is no denying that children who get tutoring perform better than those who don’t. Dymocks Tutoring is a great way to help your child bridge the gap between classroom studies and student achievements.

You can think of tutoring as a supplemental educational service. Tutors seek innovative teaching and tutoring techniques to ensure learners can master the concepts and skills. Most tutors develop their curriculum or find learning resources that learners have not seen in the classroom resulting in increased student achievement and effective tutoring sessions. When opting for tutoring, you can receive one-on-personalised services or in small groups.

While small groups work and have many benefits for learners, the best type of tutoring scenario is one-on-one because, in that case, tutors can cater to the learner’s needs. In the case of one-on-one tutoring, the tutors design the curriculum based on the individual learner’s needs and capabilities. So if your child is struggling in a subject, you should opt for a tutor who conducts individual tutoring sessions to get the best bang for your buck and data-driven tutoring sessions. However, finding an exemplary tutor for your child is no easy task. To give you ease, here are a few tips you should consider when searching for a tutor for your child. Continue reading!

Determining the needs of your child

The first thing you need to do is find out your child’s specific needs. If your child is weak in a particular subject, you would need to find a tutor specialising in that subject. Similarly, if your child has a learning disability, you would need a tutor specialised in learning methods designed for students with your child’s learning disability. Identifying your child’s needs will help narrow your search when looking for qualified tutors.

    Finding qualified tutors

You will likely find countless tutors over the internet that meet your requirements. So you need to make a list of top reputed tutors or tutoring service providers; it is advisable to shortlist at least 4-5 for further research. You can even talk to your child’s school guidance counsellor; they will likely know several tutoring service providers in your city and help you find the right tutor for your child. Referrals from other parents, family and friends are another excellent source for finding a tutor.

    Evaluating tutors

By now, you must have listed down the names of tutoring companies that meet your child’s basic needs in terms of subjects, teaching methods, etc. Now you need to evaluate each one of them in detail. Go through the company’s website; you can get more information about it, check reviews, etc. Besides this, you should consider the tutor’s experience, educational background, and performance track record. It is better to schedule a personal meeting with the tutor so that you can better evaluate the tutor and understand their strengths and weaknesses. Make sure you take your child along when meeting the tutors so that you can determine how the tutor and your child interact.

    Agreeing on goals and measures

It is crucial to have an established method for evaluating your child’s performance. Dymocks tutoring and many tutors have systems to establish a baseline and assess performance over time. This might include a better score in exams, improvement in knowledge, advancing to a higher reading grade, etc. Once you have decided on the goals, keep an eye on your child’s performance against the goals.

Finding an ideal tutoring service provider for your child can be time-consuming, and it can be frustrating if you don’t see a good tutor. However, following the above steps can significantly improve your odds of finding a good tutor on the first try.
