We live in a world where almost anybody can construct a website, thanks to the myriad DIY template businesses that have sprung up online in recent years.
When you take that path, though, it’s critical to employ a respectable and trusted web design business for a website that is totally professional in shape and operation. The issue is that there are firms and individuals out there who provide web design services that are neither respectable nor dependable.
Through my experience in digital marketing and web design and Web Development Services, I’ve discovered the warning flags that will help you identify which businesses to avoid.
Rates at rock-bottom prices
Unfortunately, bargain-basement rates are the bane of many consumers who desire websites but have little to no knowledge of how the world of web design works. When they notice that a Custom Website Design Company is giving very affordable rates in comparison to the competitors, they seize the opportunity.
The issue with low web design charges is that you will almost certainly be paying for barebones web design. You may have to pay more if you want specific features and services added. You will almost certainly wind up spending more money on your website.
Do some research on your own to obtain a sense of what reasonable professional web design charges are these days. You can also get suggestions from friends and relatives.
Upfront Payment in Full
Would you trust a Custom Website Design Company that expects you to pay in full for your website before they begin work on it?
Legitimate web design firms want a deposit. The client and the company will then agree on a payment schedule that will last until the website is operational. Avoid any web design firm that requires cash in advance.
Too Much Technology Mumbo-Jumbo
Many of my clients don’t know much about website design, which is why they’re looking for a professional web designer in the first place.
Some web design firms, on the other hand, tend to utilize a lot of tech jargon while pitching their project ideas to the client. Clients frequently consent to things they scarcely comprehend, but they must pay for them nonetheless since the site designer stated so.
But what if the tech jargon is really a front to get clients to spend money on features they don’t actually need?
If you know nothing about web design and a prospective web design firm sounds like it’s going to dazzle you with tons of tech jargon, pass on that company and hunt for another that will communicate to you in plain, simple English.
Only Web Design Firms
There was a time when building a website meant employing a web designer for its looks and a separate Custom Web Site Designer to ensure its functionality. That is no longer the case, as a web design company is now expected to provide both web design and Web Development Services. Do not hire a web design business that merely pledges to make websites appear good.
CMS isn’t included.
Every website designed by a web design business should include a CMS, or content management system. Consider yourself duped if your website from a web designer lacks one.
A CMS-less website means that altering its content will be a problem that can only be handled by contacting your web design company and asking them to edit it for a cost.
Avoid web design firms that do not use CMS platforms such as WordPress and SharePoint, or Magento in the case of e-commerce sites.
Design that is nonresponsive
The globe is becoming increasingly mobile, with smartphone and tablet users greatly outnumbering PC users. You want your website to look well on all devices, so don’t trust your web design to a business that doesn’t specialize in responsive web design.
If you notice any or all of these signals in a prospective web design firm, turn around and look for one that provides the exact opposite.
