Sports are only fun if you have plenty of participants to play with. So make sure everyone knows about your school sports festival with an amazing Instagram marketing strategy. There are over2 billion active Instagram users worldwide. And if you want to capture their attention, here are four tips to promote your school sports festival on Instagram.

    Start with amazing graphics

Instagram is all about the visuals. In fact, you can’t even make a text-only post on Instagram! And while the ridiculous number of users is a benefit to your marketing reach, it also means there’s tons of competition online. If you want to stand out, your graphics need to be incredible!

When you’re ready to start designing some posts, it’s always a good idea to check out a sports poster template or two from websites like PosterMyWall. All templates are professionally designed, so you can be sure you’re getting the best of the best for every post.

Once you find a template that best fits your sports festival’s style, customize the design with the easy drag-and-drop editor and download your finished file. You can upload your sports poster to Instagram, your website, or any other online platform. You can even print them out and hang them around campus for some real-world marketing reach!

    Post plenty of stories

Stories are short videos or pictures that are live for 24 hours before being removed. While it might seem silly to make content that’s going to be deleted, your Stories will always appear at the top of your profile, making it easy for your followers to find. They’re perfect for informal content or quick event updates.

Some of the best Story content is behind-the-scenes. Take quick videos of you and the team setting up for your school sports festival to give everyone a sneak preview of what’s to come. You can also post schedule updates about when specific sports games are starting or simple festival promotions — like the sports posters you already created!

Use hashtags to connect with others

One of the biggest difficulties with social media marketing is that your followers are typically the only ones who can see your posts. It can be difficult to extend your reach. However, using hashtags can be a great way to expand your audience and promote your school sports festival to even more people.

Hashtags link your posts with similar content on Instagram. For example, if you use the hashtag #sports, your post will appear in the #sports feed with all the other posts using the same hashtag. Then, someone could search the hashtag for related content and stumble upon your school sports festival, whether they follow you or not.

It’s always a good idea to throw in a few hashtags with every post. It might take some research to find effective hashtags that are relevant to your content, but it’s definitely worth it from a marketing perspective. Just don’t go overboard with dozens of hashtags. It’s best to stick with somewhere between three and five hashtags per post.

You can also create a unique hashtag for your sports festival. For example, if your school is called Francis Scott Key High School, you could create a #FSKSportsFestival hashtag and tag all your content with it. When other people upload their own content from your festival, they can also use the unique hashtag to keep all the content together and easy for everyone to find.

Share photos posted by students and parents

You don’t have to take on content creation alone. The students participating in the sports festival and their parents will likely also be taking tons of pictures and posting them to social media. All you have to do is share them to the school’s page, and you’ll have even more authentic content to promote future days of your school sports festival.

On Instagram, you can typically only share posts as Stories. However, if you ask the students or parents for permission (and to email you the photos), you can easily make full Instagram posts of participant content to promote your sports festival.

If you want to make your sports festival marketing even more fun, let some of the students take over the school’s Instagram page. Let them upload photos, videos, and write posts to encourage others to attend your sports festival. Not only will they come up with tons of fun content for your page, but they’ll also tell their friends and family that they’ll be running it, bringing even more attention to your promotions.

But before you hand over the login information, make sure you set some ground rules for the students. You don’t want them to post anything too ridiculous or offensive.

Host the best school sports festival ever

Social media is a powerful marketing force in 2023. With so many active users, it’s easy to reach a huge audience quickly. However, it’s important to do it right. Start with some amazing graphics using sports poster templates, post plenty of stories, use hashtags in each post, and share posts from the students and parents to your Instagram account.

The key to Instagram marketing is high-quality content. If you can keep the quality up using these helpful tips, your next school sports festival will be the most successful yet!
