Who says all eyes are on the bride in an Indian wedding? New-age Indian grooms are no less of a sensation on their big day, thanks to the dapper tuxedos and regal sherwanis. But is a traditional attire all to complement the transcending Indian bride? To look extra stunning and share the limelight with their beautiful brides-to-be, grooms can go for traditional accessories with a stylish twist.

Confused about where to start? Here are some top groom outfit accessories that you need to add to your wedding planning checklist:

Turban – Turban (or Pagdi) is a traditional headgear worn by the groom on the wedding day and is on the top of every groom wedding checklist. Whether you choose a fantastically fashionable turban or a classic plain safa, the allure it adds to the groom’s wedding attire is unmatchable. You can find a myriad of turban designs in a fabric of your choice (chanderi, velvet, silk, cotton, etc.), but make sure it complements the rest of the attire or even the bride’s attire if you decide to go for matching colours. Here are some top turban or pagdi trends that you must look out for:

    1. Floral pagdi in pastel shades
    2. Quirky prints for an off-beat statement
    3. Monotone silk safas
    4. Classic gold safas

Kalgi or Sarpech – Men’s wedding planning checklist is incomplete without a ‘kalgi’ or ‘sarpech’ – a bejewelled turban accessory that looks similar to a brooch. Just the right amount of bling and your turban will not fail to make a statement.

Kalgis had lost a lot on the popularity, but they have now made a comeback, and we see a lot of grooms experimenting with various designs and getting their hands on the most appealing one. Here are some unique ones that are ruling the kalgi trend:

    1. Kalgi with kundan or Polki stones
    2. Kalgi with rubies and pearls
    3. Feathered kalgi
    4. Kalgi with pearled strings

Necklaces – One just cannot forget groom necklaces in the wedding planning checklist. A necklace is very important to create that royal demeanour that Indian grooms display. Moreover, it completes the traditional groom outfit, accentuating the elegance and adding a dash of colour and edginess. Here are some statement neckpieces you can choose from for a dapper wedding look:

    1. Pearls for a pristine look
    2. Layered necklaces with a pendant for an extravagant look
    3. Pearls with precious stones like ruby or emerald
    4. Pearl strings with bejewelled clasps for a royal look
    5. Kundan necklace for a stunning outfit finish

Mojri/Juti – Have you ever seen an Indian groom in a sherwani without a juti or mojri? Probably not. Mojris are a staple piece in a groom’s wedding outfit and one of the most important items in a wedding planning checklist. You can go all traditional and complete your ethnic look with mojris embellished with zari and sequins, or go for the one with gota embroidery to give your wedding look an edge. You can also keep it simple with fine faux leather or go royal with suede or velvet. Just make sure your pair of mojris complements your outfit.

Brooch – A brooch is a must-have item in a groom wedding checklist that can amp up the outfit immediately. It’s especially great for grooms-to-be who are not comfortable with long or heavy neckpieces. And the best part is that a brooch can go with ethnic, indo-western, and even western outfits. So, even if you are planning to wear a tuxedo on your big day, go with a stylish brooch that matches your bride’s wedding attire and also complements your outfit’s design.

Apart from these must-have accessories, you can also accentuate the entire look with an ornate dupatta and a statement watch or bracelet. Read up on the trends and find out what goes perfectly with your personal style.
